Little Brickhill is to be twinned with a town in Italy, and the friendship will be celebrated with a weekend of events.
Colle Sannita is the home town of Toni and Angelina Zeiolla, who run The George pub in Little Brickhill and its restaurant La Collina.
There is a large Italian population in the surrounding area, and through this the local community has links with Anglo Italian Community UK – a group of Italians from Milton Keynes and London who organise social andsports events
Toni Zeiolla is the vice-chairman of the group, whose first event was a highly successful Italian-themed Christmas dinner and dance at Willen Lake.
On July 18, Mayor of Colle Sannita, Giorgio Carlo Nista, will be meeting Mayor of Milton Keynes, Keith McLean, and MP for Milton Keynes South, Iain Stewart, in Little Brickhill, to shake hands and formally open the playground at Watson’s Field.
The formalities have been planned to coincide with the Little Brickhill Family Fun Day, from 12.30pm to 4.30pm on Watson’s Field.
Entry is free to the Fun Day, which includes an Italian cake competition, stalls, fun races, pony riding, music fromthe Woburn Sands Band, a bar, barbecue, chainsaw carving and sponsored charity waxing.
In the evening there is a hog roast in La Collina, welcoming all parts of the village and the Italian community from the surrounding area, as well as many from London and abroad. Tickets £7.
On Sunday, July 19, things take an Italian turn.
The 11am monthly family service at Little Brickhill’s Mary Magdalene Church will be Ecumencial in style, to encourage the Italian community to attend.
At 6pm, there will be a Catholic Mass carried out by senior Italian cleric Monsignor Don Antonio.
At 7pm the weekend will end with an Italian Dance at the village hall.
