Visually impaired invited to have a go at skiing during special session at Snozone in Milton Keynes

Outspan Rebels, a visually impaired ski team and satellite club to Ski MK Race based at Milton Keynes, is hosting the event at Snozone on Sunday, October 7.

The day is designed to help those with a visual impairment (VI) to try skiing and is the last of a number of such events before the winter season.

Outspan have created a structured approach, using sighted guides, so that VIs can develop their ski skills for recreation or try racing.

A spokesman for the group said: “There is now a structure in place to ensure we produce the highest quality VI athletes from a very young age - so when they reach a suitable age for paralympic development, they are as prepared as their able bodied counter parts. If they don’t want to follow that path, they can still fulfil to their own level. Supported prices by Snozone allow Outspan Rebels to host these events.

“So far this year four of our racers have now been elevated to an elite squad to prepare them for the final step before Team GB Selection.

“Outspan look to fund the total cost - race lanes and equipment, flights, hotel, lift pass, food, expenses and salary for the week - of an instructor for these camps, which goes some way to making it affordable for the group.”
