This week Community Action:MK is focusing on - Carers Milton Keynes.
Carers Milton Keynes are currently looking at expanding their band of volunteers in the following areas:
Trustee Board Members: Carers Milton Keynes and its sister charity Carers Bucks are looking for new Trustee Board Members with talent and enthusiasm. The charities work in their respective geographic areas and between them support nearly ten thousand adult and young carers. Services include advice, information, support groups and help - both practically and emotionally.
Among the skills and experience they are looking for are fundraising, marketing, youth work and social care. If you are, have been or know someone who is a family carer, so much the better.
The Trustees meet ten times a year and each meeting takes place on a weekday morning. Meetings alternate between Milton Keynes and Aylesbury.
Volunteer Drivers: Young Carers Milton Keynes provides support for children and young people aged between eight and 18 who care for someone who may have a disability, physical or mental illness or alcohol/substance dependency.
One of the regular methods of support is the provision of monthly youth clubs. These clubs give the young carer the opportunity to have a break from their caring role, meet others in a similar position as themselves, make new friends and have fun.
Due to the adverse circumstances that the families often have to face it can prove to be very difficult, and at times impossible, for the adults in the house to transport their children to the clubs i.e. their own disability/illness, not able to afford a car, caring for a child with acute disabilities.
Consequently they are looking for drivers to provide this essential transport.
They would like the drivers to be at least 23 years old and they must have held a clean/full driving licence for a minimum of two years. Drivers will also need to have a friendly personality and a genuine liking of children and young people.
Currently they are looking for drivers from all over Milton Keynes to take young carers to the Newport Pagnell Youth Centre on Tuesday evenings for 6pm and return them home at 9.30pm.
Social Care Drivers Project: Carers Milton Keynes have a new driving project for young people in Social Care and you could be part of the team. They need a team of volunteers who are able to commit to driving young people on a regular basis - this could be in MK or various locations outside the Borough. Drivers will ideally have experience of working with children, be sensitive and above all reliable.
