Here at Community Action: MK we support charities and community groups with the recruitment of volunteers. This week we are focusing on one particular organisation - Carers Milton Keynes.

Carers Milton Keynes is an independent charity and Company Limited by Guarantee established in 2006 to support unpaid, family carers in the Milton Keynes area.

They are currently looking at expanding their band of volunteers in the following areas:

>Telephone Befrienders

Individuals with a pleasant and confident telephone manner are required to liaise with carers by telephone, under the guidance of Carers MK staff. Using a pre-prepared list you will call carers to determine if they are still caring, offering a listening ear to those carers in need of additional or further support and record the information on the database. Also ensuring that if carers are in need of further support they are referred to a support worker. You will signpost carers to other services where relevant and send out letters to those who cannot be contacted by telephone to clarify if further support is needed. You will need to be 18 or over and have good interpersonal and computer skills.

>Volunteer Befriender - Driver

If you are a car owner/driver and would like to volunteer then Carers MK would like to hear from you. They need volunteers to transport carers when needed to events, activities, support groups etc. and to stay with the carer to offer support and a listening ear. You would then be required to transport the carer back home safely. You will need to have a good knowledge of the Milton Keynes area and basic computer skills to update the carers records accurately. Volunteers will need to attend relevant and mandatory training, be 18 years +, have the relevant car insurance (class one) and be willing to undergo a DBS. This role is very flexible as events/activities can take place either during the day or in the evenings. Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

> Volunteer Driver Heroes

Have you ever wanted to do something that would really make a difference to the community? Carers MK are looking for Volunteer Driver Heroes to support a new driving project aimed at helping families in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire and beyond. They are currently recruiting new drivers to be a part of a great team. They are looking for drivers who are able to commit at least a few hours over 1 - 2 days per week for a minimum of 6 months to transport families to their appointments. This project aims to provide an ongoing, good quality service to their clients. Their aim is to match each driver to a family or client to transport them to their location safely. Full training and support will be provided as will out of pocket expenses and your car will be valeted once every eight weeks. All volunteers will need a full clean driving licence, access to a 4- door car and car insurance. Prior to commencing volunteering all volunteers will need to be DBS checked. If you are looking to gain valuable experience to help towards a career in social work, learn and develop new skills or simply have free time to help others going through a difficult period in their lives then this opportunity could be for you.
