Volunteers wanted for The Big Friendly Read in Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes Libraries want volunteers aged 13 - 25 to get involved with '˜The Big Friendly Read' - Summer Reading Challenge 2016.

Young people who are keen readers, confident talking about the books they like and who enjoy meeting new people are encouraged to sign up to act as reading role models for young children.

Days, times and locations are flexible but volunteers are needed in all of the nine libraries across Milton Keynes - Central Milton Keynes, Bletchley, Newport Pagnell, Stony Stratford, Wolverton, Westcroft, Kingston, Woburn Sands and Olney up until the first week of September.

The libraries in Milton Keynes get really busy over the summer and the help they get from volunteers to support staff in their branches makes a huge difference to them.

Last year they had 101 volunteers all across Milton Keynes and they helped thousands of children to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge.

Every year the Summer Reading Challenge theme is different – this year it marks the centenary of the birth of Roald Dahl. It is targeted at participation with pupils from preschool to the end of their time in primary school and into Year 8 in secondary schools.

Volunteers need to sign up by Monday 27 June 2016 online at www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/src (or in any library).
