Warning to pet owners in Milton Keynes after savage attack on cat

Pet owners in the area became aware of the incident when leaflets dropped through their doors from animal rescue group SNARL.

They regularly distribute leaflets where attacks have taken place, as a warning to other owners.

It is understood the attack may have had some of the the hallmarks of the so-called ‘M25 cat killer’ who has butchered hundreds of much-loved pets during the last two years.

A spokesman for the Milton Keynes and North Bucks branch of the RSPCA said: “We are asking pet owners to be careful and be aware.

“Typically, the offender strikes in the middle of the night.

“We don’t want to panic people, but our advice is to keep cats in at night if possible.If you see anything suspicious, report it.”

Owners are also being advised to bring in rabbits and guinea pigs overnight.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact police on 101 or the RSPCA appeal line on 0300 123 8018 quoting Operation Takahe.

“We would like to reassure cat owners that deliberate attacks on pets are, thankfully, extremely rare,” the spokesman added.

In Bedford, three cats from the same street were found beheaded last month.
