Storm Francis wind warning is raised to amber in Milton Keynes
The weather warning in Milton Keynes has this afternoon been raised from yellow to amber by the Met Office.
The amber status is one level down from red, which is the most severe. It is in place until 10pm and people have been warned to expect very strong winds.
Bucks and MK fire service has warned householders to check their garden before it gets dark and moving any loose items into a safer place, such as a garage or shed or even indoors if safe to do so.
A fire service spokesman said: "The Storm Francis wind warning was raised from yellow to amber in the area including part of Buckinghamshire and much of Milton Keynes, and extended to last until 10pm.
An amber warning means "extreme weather" is expected and people need to be prepared to change their plans and protect themselves and their community from any impact of the severe weather.
Travel and journey times will be affected and it is "likely" the wind will cause power cuts, says the Met Office.
Flying debris is also to be expected.
