West Bletchley Council are proud to announce the date for this year’s Carnival, in fact it’s a Jubilee Weekend Carnival.
Saturday, June 2 will see West Bletchley streets come alive as the Carnival Parade leaves Melrose Avenue at 12pm heading for the huge venue of Rickley Park.
Now in its 11th year Paraders and visitors will be greeted at the park by over 100 stalls, a main live entertainment stage, face painters, fairground with food and bar to keep everyone happy. This year’s theme is “The Commonwealth” so they are looking forward to many creative designs.
On Sunday, June 3, West Bletchley will also host a double Jubilee project on the day with the introduction of two ‘first ever’ events.
The Big ‘Picnic’ Lunch will be taking place at Rickley Park where you can bring a picnic and family to enjoy live music and even take part in the School Sports Day Games.
The Jubilee Soapbox Derby will see man made carts take to the street and race for the line to see who’s the fastest! There’s also a prize for the team that raises the most sponsorship for charity.
Last year the Carnival raised over £10,000 for charity, with 2012’s chosen beneficiary confirmed as Whaddon Way Community Projects.
Culture and Events Coordinator for West Bletchley Council Gennaro Corrado, said: “We are proud to announce these exciting events for the Jubilee weekend.
The Queens Jubilee will see more people get involved than previous years, it is all very positive and we are looking forward to residents playing their part and having fun. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed the sun makes a welcome return!”
There are spaces available for stalls for Saturday and for the Jubilee Soap Box Derby including sponsoring the soapbox race.
