A shiny set of keys have been officially handed over to the store manager of the soon-to-be opened Wilko store in the Kingston Centre.

The value home and garden retailer will open on Thursday, August 6 and will mark the special occasion with a ceremonial ribbon cutting led by Councillor Keith McLean, Mayor of Milton Keynes, MK Dons Football Club and MK Wilko store manager, Siddharth Raghavan.

To help shoppers stock up on home and garden essentials, the team will be handing out free Wilko gift cards to the first 100 customers on opening day.

Plus, there will be lots of family entertainment including a free family picnic, face painter and a children’s magician.

The brand new 15,900 square foot store will offer two floors of family essentials, helping local people get their to-dos done. Store manager, Siddharth, commented: “Now we have full access to the store, the team and I can prepare for the grand opening. We can’t wait to showcase the new store and become part of the local community.”

Karen Clayton, Deputy Centre Manager for the Kingston Centre, said: “We are delighted that Wilko will be opening at the Kingston Centre. Wilko’s huge range of hardware, homeware and garden products will add to the centre’s appeal and it will offer our shoppers greater variety.”

The store’s charity of the year is Cancer Research UK and, to kick off the partnership, representatives will be in store on opening day to fundraise and meet local shoppers.

To continue the opening celebrations, the new store will host a family fun day on Saturday 8th August from 11am to 3pm. Younger shoppers will be able to enjoy a free ‘make your own shopping bag’ craft workshop, face painting and gift card giveaways, plus the store team will be handing out free Wilko summer products at random throughout the day.

Siddharth said: “There are plenty of giveaways and activities planned to keep the little ones entertained during the summer holidays - I’d like to encourage people to pop in, say hello and join in the fun.”
