One of the oldest crafts in human history was celebrated and embraced at Frost’s last week, when the willow weaving workshop returned by popular demand.
The event saw guests craft a range of creations for themselves as part of the centre’s monthly gardening and country living workshops
Willow weaving goes back beyond recorded human history, with the oldest known baskets carbon dated to between 10,000 and 12,000 years old, earlier than any established dates for archeological finds of pottery. Other baskets have been discovered in the Middle East that are up to 7,000 years old
A Frost’s spokesman said: “Willow Weaving is an art form which celebrates nature and leaves our visitors with a beautiful memento to display in the garden at home.
“Our gardening and country living workshops offer monthly activities throughout 2015, designed to offer visitors the opportunity to learn new skills and enjoy a hands-on activity. Each one celebrates the best of country living and will leave visitors with new expertise, ideas for activities to try at home and a memento from the day.”
