Winner of Milton Keynes Community Foundation Sports Bursary announced

Every year Milton Keynes Community Foundation works in partnership with Sport MK to award a local sports star a bursary of £2,000 -and this year's winner has been announced as rising athletics star, Ebony Carr.

When we met Ebony, she shared with us how she first got into athletics. She explained to us that as a young girl she was a very lively and energetic and tried out most sports, her talent for running was first spotted by a local coach after a friend kicked a football and she chased after it.

“We need to get this girl to the track!” the coach exclaimed!

Ebony has been a member of Marshall Milton Keynes Athletic Club ever since.

Her sporting accolades include being a member of GB 4x100M Team winning a Bronze Medal at the European Junior Champs in Italy in July 2017 and Bronze Medallist at the England Open u20 Championship.

Ebony gained her first GB junior International vests this year. As well as the European Junior Champs where she ran the 1st leg of the 4x100m relay final. She also represented GB competing in an international junior meeting in Mannheim, Germany and in an international meeting in Manchester.

“I’m hoping to use the bursary to pay for warm weather training next year,” she said. “I would love to compete more internationally so it is essential I experience how the heat can affect my performance and training.”

Ebony is committed to her athletics and is focused on attaining her goals to become a senior international, training at least five days a week, combining track work, hill training, conditioning and weights ensuring she can compete at the highest level.

Next year she is aiming to be selected for the World Junior Championships at Tampere, Finland in July.

“We’re very excited to support Ebony in her sporting career and look forward to following her progress,” said a spokesman for the MK Community Foundation.
