Work starts on new '˜Sport Central' facility in Central Milton Keynes

Work on the new Sports Central facility in Milton Keynes was officially started with Mayor Councillor Steve Coventry taking the reins at a sod cutting ceremony.

The new sports facility is on land close to the Network Rail building and Station Square and once complete will offer:

> full-size third generation (3G) artificial playing pitch constructed to FA and RFU standards

> two multi-use games areas for hard court sports eg tennis, netball and basketball

> a pavilion and areas to socialise, use as a meeting place or to hold children’s parties, and changing facilities.

The offical opening is scheduled for summer 2017, with building work undertaken by contractor, Kier and overseen by Milton Keynes

Council.

The project is being funded through a variety of sources primarily from Section 106 contributions from Network Rail, Sport England and Rugby World Cup 2015 legacy funding.
