The controversial new Tesco store in Newport Pagnell will be open by this time next year.
The supermarket giant confirmed this week that work will start early in 2014 on the former Aston Martin works site.
Tesco battled for two years to win planning permission for the new store.
Resdients formed a protest group called Tesno, claiming a new supermarket would be the death knell for the town’s traditional High Street.
But as soon as permission was granted, Tesco cancelled the start date for building works.
But the confirmation of the new start date coincides with a setback for Tesco-lovers a few miles up the road in Wolverton.
There the planned new extension for the existing store has suddenly been cancelled for no given reason.
A Tesco spokesman said: ”We have recently been reviewing our plans and after careful consideration we have decided not to extend.”
She added: “We understand that some local people will be disappointed, but we will be making changes to improve the look and feel and range available to customers, particularly in our baby and home area.”
