ONE of the world’s foremost Yoga instructors visited Stony Stratford last month to hold an introductory workshop on the foundations of Ashtanga Yoga.
David Swenson visited the Whitespace Yoga and Wellbeing Studio in Stony on Tuesday, November 29.
The three hour workshop was packed, with over 40 Whitespace students attending.
Speaking about the workshop, Deborah McNicholas of WhiteSpace said: “We were honoured to host David’s workshop here at Whitespace Studio.
“Students learnt a great deal about the intriguing Ashtanga Yoga system, came away totally inspired and had a lot of fun too. We were delighted to be able to offer this rare opportunity to learn from one of the yoga world’s most respected teachers.”
Deborah had the pleasure of studying with David out in India in 2010, and was able to persuade him to visit Whitespace in Milton Keynes.
“He is such an inspirational teacher with such a rich connection to the linage of yoga as we know it today,” she added.
“I wanted yoga enthusiasts across the city to enjoy this experience.”
Mr Swenson, who was born and raised in Texas, began practising yoga in 1969 at the age of 13, moving to Ashtanga Yoga in 1973. In 1974 K. Pattabhi Jois made his first trip to the US and Mr Swenson began studies directly with him at that time. He then traveled to Mysore, India in 1977 and learned the entire system in its original form.
