Both Arwel and Elis Rees-Kay were recognised with one of the prestigious scholarships, which are administered by the national arts charity Awards for Young Musicians, at an awards day held at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester earlier this month.

Arwel is a trumpet player, pianist and organist who attends the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music on Saturdays. He will take his A Levels next year and will put his scholarship award towards supporting his composition tuition.

Elis is a classical guitarist and tuba player who was also a Robert Lewin Scholar last year. He will take his GCSEs next year and his award is to support an increase in his tuba tuition to help him attain his higher grades.

Both boys have competed in the Milton Keynes Festival of the Arts, for Music, Dance and Drama, for several years where they have won many trophies individually, with MK Youth Brass, and even together in the open small ensemble category.
