YOUNG people in Milton Keynes had an opportunity to find out about apprenticeships and meet local employers face to face in a packed out apprenticeship fair held recently at The Point.

A total of 124 young people attended the event, on February 9, which was organised by Connexions:MK, as part of national apprenticeship week, February 6 to 10.

It was a chance for 16 to 19 years olds to meet local employers with apprenticeships available and learn more about the types of on the job training they could expect.

A total of 14 employers and training providers attended, including TXM Recruit (Red Bull), Mercedes Benz, Home Retail Group, Railcare and MK Dons Sports and Education Trust (SET). Between them they offered a range of career opportunities including: engineering, childcare, hospitality and catering, mechanics or hair and beauty.

A live DJ was playing throughout the event and there was an opportunity to see some young people at work with De Vere Academy of Hospitality, with some of their apprentices serving refreshments.

As an added incentive for people to come along all young people at the event had the chance to enter a prize draw, with the chance to win prizes donated by MK Dons and the Alternative Hair Agency. These included a family ticket to an MK Dons match and goody bags from Zig Zag hairdressers.

One young person, who attended the event, said: “The event was very useful, with lots of different apprenticeships available. I am interested in Red Bull and Mercedes Benz and will apply for these. I thought the live music at the fair was great”
