Youth re-offending rates in Milton Keynes second lowest in the country

The statistics cover the period between September 2015 and October 2016 and show that Milton Keynes’ re-offending rate among those aged 10-17 was the second lowest in the country at just 26% - only beaten by Plymouth at 24.5% - but much lower than the national average of 41.6%.

The figures reflect the good work of MK Council’s Youth Offending Team, who work specifically with young people aged 10-17 who are either serving Court Orders or who have received Pre-Court Disposals.

MKC’s Youth offending Team also has access to speech and language therapists for two days a week and to a Primary Mental Health Worker for one day a week, working closely with youth offenders offering support, advice and strategies to deal with issues.

A full time Substance Misuse Worker is also part of the YOT at the council.

Councillor Zoe Nolan, cabinet member for children and families, said: “These latest statistics are fantastic and show that MK Council’s Youth Offending Team is doing great work keeping young people away from further crime. This is good news for all of us as it means there are fewer victims of crime too.”
