Family of Milton Keynes man stabbed to death move back to Romania because it's 'too dangerous' here

Beniamin Pieknyi, 21, was chased and stabbed just outside a shopping centre in March this year.

Five men are due to be sentenced in connection with his death, which happened when he was in London at the Stratford shopping centre,

Beniamin was born in Lupeni in Romania and moved to Milton Keynes at the beginning of this year to live with his brother and sister.

He was working with his brother Mihael at a takeaway food shop in MK.

On 20 March he travelled to London to meet up with a friend.

At the start of an trial in September an Old Bailey judge heard Beniamin was “minding his own business” when he was attacked by a group of men.

The court heard he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Metropolitan police officers said the group of men, all in their late teens or early 20s, had a history of hanging around the shopping centre and were known to cause trouble and harass innocent people.

The offenders are currently awaiting sentencing, but this week his sister Iulia told the BBC that Beniamin’s death had prompted her and her brother to move back to Romania.

“I’ve come to realise that terrible things can happen in the blink of an eye, and if you say the wrong thing to the wrong person you could end up dead,” she said.
