Eamonn Holmes hinted that he believes in the 5G coronavirus conspiracy on This Morning - here's what he said

by Conor Marlborough

Eamonn Holmes, presenter of ITV’s This Morning, has argued that he thinks the media’s dismissal of a conspiracy that claims 5G internet masts are spreading coronavirus “suits the state narrative”.

In a segment dedicated to fighting the spread of fake news, the 60 year old told his fellow presenter, “What I don’t accept is mainstream media immediately slapping that down as not true, when they don’t know it’s not true."

Referring to reports that 5G conspiracy theorists had been damaging internet masts, Holmes said, “No one should attack or damage or do anything like that.

“But it’s very easy to say it's not true because it suits the state narrative. That’s all I would say to someone with an enquiring mind.”

No evidence linking 5G to coronavirus

Independent fact checking organisation, FullFact, has published its investigation into the claims that 5G is accelerating the spread of Covid-19.

The site concluded that “there is no evidence that 5G WiFi networks are linked to the new coronavirus.”

FullFact has published its full breakdown of the claims and the reasons for its conclusion here.

ITV viewers were quick to comment on Holmes’ outburst, with @markgrimshaw16 tweeting, “If you didn’t see #ThisMorning today, Eamonn Holmes suggested he believes that 5G may be to blame for Coronavirus & doesn’t think you should listen to the “mainstream media” & “state narrative”, NOBODY ACKNOWLEDGED WHAT JUST HAPPENED then Alison Hammond baked some banana bread.”
