Too hot to fish? Not for Osprey as their Sunday outing saw 28 anglers land more than 5,200 lbs of carp, well over two tons!
The ever-roving crew went to Arran’s lake, Essex, where 21 of them fished a league round won by Mark Gilbert on 421lb ahead of Kieran Chavda 401lb and Chris Lovelock 357lb.
But an associated seven peg mini-sweep, alongside the main match, saw Matt Smith with 501lb as Neil Riddy netted 426lb and Ian Warby 395lb!
The lowest weight on the day was 44lb (bet he was sick) with only three nets of less than 100lb...
Maver MK’s Roger Clutton (pictured above) is storming the Evesham Avon – having qualified for the Shakespeare AND Wychavon finals... and won another section at the weekend with 15lb of bream and hybrids.
Ultra-hot weather can get big cats going. On Tiddenfoot last week MK Angling Centre’s Brian Haynes saw another man land seven cats for over 450lb, having a 50 pounder on each of his two rods at one point. And the same night, Bletchley’s Nigel Laurie had five, including three 50s.
Bailiff Sean Wilson has been getting tench to 7-10 at Bradwell, while others have had bream to 9lb in the dark.
Small silvers and perch have been feeding well in the mornings.
More than 60 people of all ages had a ‘taste’ of fishing as MKAA head coach Nuala Gray and colleagues staged some ‘come and try’ sessions down on Caldecotte Lake.
That was part of the Parks Trust’s Wicked Water Fun Day promoting safe enjoyment of various water-based sports.
