Angling by Trevor Johnson: October 4

BARE-chested and up to his belt in a lake cuddling a 54lb mirror – Craig Carder is not at Furzon where water temperatures are currently about 12 degrees.

He is pictured in a rather warmer South of France at Lake Brigueille, to which he and fellow city-lad Paul Housego have just made their annual pilgrimage.

Paul got off to a flier, banking a 46 within two hours of starting, but then Craig – who had a 55 there two years back – topped that with his latest biggie.

Olney’s Ouse match (at the bathing place) saw two club records smashed in the one morning. Winning with 17-15, Adam Cook, pictured, set a new club bream best with this 8-7 and Dave Partridge, runner-up with 7-1, set a new perch pinnacle with a 4-3. Andy Crouch had 6-1.

No prizes for guessing that the winner of MKAA’s six-round individual league was Ernie Sattler who, with 85 points, was well clear of Kevin Osborne 55 and Paul Hamilton 53. Saturday’s Toombes Meadow final round went to Paul Whatley 11-9-8 (perch to 2-8) as Hamilton had 9-3 and Sattler 6-12-8.

MK oldie BILL Lovelock topped Osprey’s Rolfes lake, Essex, do with 116-8 of carp (almost equalling his age). Keith Stent had 106-12 and Ian Millin 95-11.

Alders’ midweek open was tight as Josh Blavins netted 211-14 to Malcolm Talbot’s 211 with Brian Downey on 186lb. Saturday’s do went to Colin Fosdyke, 86lb, followed by Malcolm Talbott 77lb and Del Smith 56lb.

Towcester vets’ Flecknoe trip saw John Balhatchett with 41-4 of carp as Gerald Greene netted 40-7 and Tosh Saunders 39-12. On Claydon lake Barry Witteridge topped Calvert’s sweep with big fish and bits for 20-15. Dave Lewis had 13-4 and Darren Whelton 7-4

Midweek, on Furzton, Austin Maddocks claimed the MK vets’ outing with 18-11 of feeder-bream. Ernie Sattler had 13-13 and Bob Gale (still counting his dosh from last week’s Citizen Cup win) 7-12.

John Hewison is retiring as the vets’ very efficient ‘Mr Fix-it’ – meaning the old geezers have to find someone else to do the donkey-work of arranging and running their matches. Any volunteers?

Pete Smith won Beacon’s Cook’s wharf cut match with 14-3, ahead of Les Smith 7-6 and Steve Emerton 3-13.

Dats’ Ouse Main match was another win for Ernie Sattler with 6-1-8 of perch and bits. Gary Britton made 4-10-8 and Pete Whatley 3-13-8. Paul Neeve won Linford’s wharf cut do with 4lb followed by Mick Hefferon 3-1 and John Hough 1-2.

At Castlethorpe Mick Goodridge and Matt Brafield tied on 2-8 in Towcester’s canal sweep, with Darren Pannell on 2-4.
