Athletics round-up: Double European bronze for Mark Roberson

MARSHALL Milton Keynes Athletic Club enjoyed success at the European Veteran’s Championships in Zittau, Germany as Mark Roberson won two bronze medals.

The first came in his preferred M35 hammer event with a throw of 45.25m, and the other in the weight with 13.58m, but unfortunately his success resulted in him having to withdraw from the pentathlon after three disciplines.

John Brown also had a good meeting, winning his M55 age group 100m heat in 12.59s, before improving to 12.33s in the semi final for 4th and taking 5th in the final with 12.48s.

And he almost repeated that in the 200m with 2nd in the heats (25.71s) and 4th in the semi (25.89s), but was unable to start the final.

In the M50 category, Mike Burling was 20th in the discus with 24.15s, 15th in the hammer (31.16m), 13th in the weight (12.27m) and 18th in the throws pentathlon after putting the shot 7.80m, throwing the discus 24.89m, the hammer 30.07m, javelin 22.35m and the weight 11.58m.

>> At the Inter-County Championships and BMC Final in Bedford, Sophie Wilkins just missed out on a medal as she finished 4th in the long jump clearing 5.74m, while in the 5000m Lara Bromilow set a new personal best of 17m 30.58s to take 5th spot in the Inter-County competition.

In the 800m D race it was 6th for Amy Botham (F17) taking 2m 23.70s, with 7th in the hammer for Sam Ridgway (53.48m) and 8th in the triple jump by Chuko Cribb (M20) 13.38m.

The club’s three entrants in the 1500m C races finished 7th, 10th and 12th as Elle Roche (F20) crossed the line in 4m 47.6s, Chad Lambert in 3m 54.97s and Sam Deathe 4m 00.76s respectively.
