Baggaley on top form to win in Spain

TABLE tennis star Andrew Baggaley continued his countdown to the 2012 London Olympics with an impressive performance to claim the prestigious Vic International Open title in Spain.

Baggaley didn’t drop a set on his way to the final, defeating Spanish player Xavier Peral 3-0 followed by an equally convincing 3-0 quarter final victory over Spanish Super League player Marc Clotet.

In the semi final Baggaley played Frenchman Admir Duranspahic and again dominated proceeding as he swept to another 3-0 victory and a place in the final.

The final then took place in front of a capacity crowd and in front of Catalan Television cameras against Frenchman Jeremy Petiot. And again Baggaley took control of the match from start to finish to record a 3-1 victory and lift the men’s singles title.

The competition marks the start of the European table tennis season and 28-year-old Baggaley will again play in France having signed for Paris-based side Fontenay, having spent the 2011 season with Nice.
