FOUR city youngsters represented Team Milton Keynes when they travelled to Kislingbury Bowls Club in Northants to take part in an inter-county U17s bowls competition.

Nathan Nimmo, 13, and Deon Bertans, 13, both play for Wolverton Park while Sam McLeod, 13, plays for Bradwell and James Preston, 17, for Bletchley St Martins.

Although they failed to take the honours on this occasion they gave a creditable performance on their debut in this event against some good opposition including regular county U25 players.

Of their five games played they won three, drew one and lost one. There were some 40 players from the surrounding counties taking part and Team Milton Keynes’ rink played well together trying to master “one of the fastest greens I have ever come across,” said coach and team manager Peter Staniford.

He added: “I was really proud of the way they applied themselves, but most of all it was great to see them having fun playing within their own age group.”

Any young people between the ages of 10-17 who are interested in giving lawn bowls a try are encouraged to contact their local bowls club where free taster sessions with English Bowls registered coaches (CRB checked) can be arranged, or alternatively give Peter Staniford a call on 01908 561384.
