Central region medals for city martial arts club

LAST Saturday proved to be a great day for seven members of the city’s Region 4 United Kingdom Tang Soo Do Federation martial arts club.

The club, based in Stantonbury, went to Watford for this year’s 34th annual Central Championships and returned with a fantastic medal haul.

In the children’s division for forms Nathan Rees took the gold medal while Krishan Badiani came third,

And In the adult forms events, the club’s results were very impressive as Cousins Ryan Vicera and Marc Melendres took the top two spots in their division with Ryan emerging the victor.

Rosanna Spanoudakis also shone in her division as she took the win while Alexander Read lost out on the first place position by the smallest margin possible.

Liesha Hampton Jones produced a solid effort and took third place in her division.

The results were as follows: Ryan Vicera, first place/gold medal; Marc Melendres, second place/silver medal; Alex Read, first place/gold medal; Rosanna Spanoudakis, first place/gold; Liesha Hampton-Jones, bronze/third place.

In the children’s free sparring Competition Nathan Rees backed up the gold that he won in the forms contest with a gold medal first place in the free sparring.

The adult competition was just as successful with cousins Marc Melendres and Ryan Vicera fighting out the final of their division, this time with Marc taking the gold and Ryan having to settle for the silver.

Alex Read made sure of victory this time to win the gold medal in his division while Rosanna Spanoudakis’ careful strategy paid dividends with another gold.

Liesha obtained a bronze medal for her sparring efforts to make that another double.

The adult sparring results were as follows: Marc Melendres, first place/gold; Ryan Vicera, second place/silver; Alex Read, first place/gold; Rosanna Spanoudakis, first place/gold; Liesha Hampton-Jones, third place/bronze.
