Gonefishin are 2015 MK spring canal league champions – but their last-gasp grapple for glory could hardly have been any closer!
In the end it all came down to a dead-heat on points with Browning Blue and an agonising countback on weight.
That saw them triumph by a margin of just over a pound accumulated over the four-round series.
The final leg, on the Campbell Park cut, had seen ‘Fishin third on the day with 40 points, one place and two section points adrift of ‘Blue, as Black Horse White claimed top spot on 45.
Browning provided all three top weights with Central’s Carl Smith on 13-6 of bream ahead of Blue’s Norman Bradshaw 11-6 and White’s Gary Snee 10-13.
The overall individual title went to ‘Horse White’s Rob Dzialak on 47 points, with ‘Fishin’s Paul Abbott on 46.
Final placings: GoneFishin 154, Browning Blue 154, ‘Horse White 153, Maver MK Black 140 ahead of Browning Black (140) on weight, ‘Horse Black 138, Tackle Hub Silver 127, Maver MK Green 122, Browning Gold 112, Tackle Hub Gold 107, ‘Horse Red 99, Browning Central 98, Royal Oak 82, Browning Red 78.
Never mind who wants to be in Europe – a week in France really paid off for Gary Maton (pictured with an 88-12 cat) Mark Gaylor, Bill Bradshaw and Kevin Briggs who shared a haul also including four 30lb carp, a score or more 20s and a 34lb ‘grassie’.
Another lad scoring ‘overseas’ was Phil Bardell, just back from Ireland’s three-day 40th Anniversary Waterways Classic festival, having won the first day’s match with 16.110 kilo.
When Richard Massey – more used to fishing for the big stuff – entered his first ever match, a DATS’ evening Castlethorpe cut do, he showed the regulars how. Using flake and lob-tails he bagged 10-1-8 of bream. Ernie Sattler had 7-6, Nigel Steel 6-9.
And Andy Holdaway – the only ‘bivvy boy’ in Kingfisher’s Boddington reservoir line-up – used boilies for four carp for 47-3. Mircea Peredercu had 24-10 and Dean Warren 17-6.
