TWO members of Milton Keynes’ Redway Runners club are going to cross the finish line in the Olympic Stadium – four months before the likes of 100m world record holder Usain Bolt and company.

Martin Lawrence and James Dwight might not sprint down the home straight in 9.58 seconds but they are going to be among 5,000 others to take part in the National Lottery Olympic Park Run coming up on March 31.

The run is the first public event at the Olympic Park and Stadium, and comes 17 weeks before the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 London Games – with £2.2 billion worth of funding coming from the National Lottery and its players.

Martin and James won places in the prestigious event – which will take in five miles of the Olympic Park and Village – by entering an online ballot last year. Both will also be able to take two guests along with them to soak up the atmosphere of the Games long before the world’s elite athletes take to the track and field.

In fact March is a busy month for the duo who will be joined by 23 of their Redway Runners club mates on a trip to Portugal for the Lisbon half marathon a week before their Olympic Park outing.
