MK KNIGHTS continue to press for a speedway grand final place in the Midland Development League after beating a spirited Scunthorpe Stags side to make it two wins in four days.
Racing at the Owlerton Stadium in Sheffield, Ollie Greenwood returned to the side after missing out on the 17-19 victory at Belle Vue Colts earlier in the week to team up with captain Conor Dwyer and Shaun Tedham – who both scored six points in Manchester – and Adam Sheppard, who also missed out on the trip to the north west.
Their 22-14 win over Scunthorpe sees Knights climb to the top of the MDL table for the first time this season, opening up a three point lead over Long Eaton Invaders and Belle Vue who have both ridden more meetings, with Mercia Vikings – the only other team that could make the end of season showpiece – a further two points behind.
After Bank Holiday Monday’s fixture with Mercia Vikings fell foul of the British weather, next up for Knights is their top of the table clash against second placed Long Eaton at Leicester’s Beaumont Park Speedway Stadium on Sunday evening, following the tie between Leicester Lions and Workington Comets in the Premier League.
Victory for Knights – sponsored by Alpine Cooling – would be their eighth in 10 outings, and would virtually guarantee them the top two finish they need to book a grand final place at the end of the season.
