Two Milton Keynes secondary schools will be represented at the finals of the Center Parcs National Schools Badminton Championships next month.

Denbigh School’s boys U14 team and the girls and boys U16 teams from Stantonbury Campus will compete against eight other schools in their respective age group finals at Center Parcs in Sherwood Forest over the weekend of April 21-22.

The Center Parcs National Schools Badminton Championships, hosted in partnership with BADMINTON England and official shuttlecock supplier Wilson, is one of the biggest school badminton tournaments in Europe.

This year record breaking entries have seen 6,140 school badminton teams from over 1,600 secondary schools and more than 31,000 children getting on-court to take part in four rounds of action – a 35 per cent increase in participation levels from previous years.

Adrian Christy, chief executive of BADMINTON England, said: “We would like to express our congratulations to Stantonbury Campus and Denbigh School for reaching the finals of the Center Parcs National Schools Badminton Championships.

“It is a highly competitive and prestigious tournament that draws out talent and entries from schools right across the country.

“With record entries this year it is fantastic to see so many children getting on court and participating in the sport – a great indication that inspiration from the Olympics is creating a real sporting legacy.”
