New champions crowned at Newport Pagnell Tennis Club

TENNIS fans have been on the edge of their seats, not just because of the developments at Flushing Meadows this week, but also at Newport Pagnell Tennis Club.

In a week which saw British tennis history re-written by Andy Murray, Sue Gous emerged as the new Ladies Champion at the annual club tournament, just beating Marie Walters 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 in the Ladies Singles final on Saturday.

Sue then teamed up with Marie to win the Ladies Doubles, beating Anne Saunders and Mary Hartley 6-1, 6-3 in the final.

There was a new winner in the Men’s Singles too, as Chris Miller beat reigning champion Darren Brown 6-2, 6-1 to take the crown.

Darren then went on to win the Mixed Doubles with Marie, beating Dan Myers and Sue 6-1, 6-4, and also the Men’s Doubles with Dan Myers, winning 6-0, 6-3 against Chris and Darryl Lucas.

Jim Warner beat Sid Miller 6-1, 6-2 in the Men’s Vets and Armaan Ahmed beat Darryl 6-2, 7-6 in the Men’s Plate.
