THE annual Milton Keynes & District Badminton Association Tournament took place at the National Badminton Centre in Loughton on Saturday.

The large number of entrants saw more than 180 games played in men’s singles, men’s doubles, ladies’ doubles and mixed doubles competitions.

Players of all ages entered, ranging from club to senior and junior county standard, and after battling their way through group stages the afternoon brought some exciting finals.

The first final of the day saw Kerrie Harper and Suzanne Rumbles win the ladies’ doubles with victory over Kerstin Brand and Nina Bridge.

The men’s singles final was next up and saw Ryan Carrick take the crown after beating Luke Beacall.

Luke had to get through very tough games just to get through the group stages and fatigue became a factor in the final as Ryan’s greater control and power led to him taking the title.

The men’s doubles proved fairly plain sailing for experienced pair Darren and Craig Kerrins as they beat youngsters James Cousins and Chris Powell.

The day’s action concluded with the mixed doubles final and saw Carrick pick up his second title of the day by teaming up with Chloe Rothery to edge past Nina Bridge and Martin Haxton. The pair were virtually untouchable on route to the final but eventually claimed the victory.

The association’s next big event is in November, see
