THE MK Knights climbed to the top of the Midland Development League junior speedway table on Monday night with a 17-19 away victory at previous leaders Belle Vue Colts in Manchester.
On a warm night in the north west, the Knights went ahead in heat two when Shaun Tedham and guest rider Lee Geary took advantage of home rider Michael Neale falling to take the race with a 5-1 points advantage.
After four races, the Knights led the Colts 13-11, but a 4-2 heat win from the hosts levelled the scores at 15-15 with one race remaining.
As the final heat started, the MK duo of Conor Dwyer and Tedham shot to the front and looked to be heading to a maximum heat advantage until Colts rider Neale took another heavy fall into the safety fence, causing the race to be stopped and started all over again.
As the tapes went up for the re-start, Dwyer again reached the first bend in front, with Colts’ Tom Woolley close behind and Tedham tucking in for the match winning point in third.
The win – Knights’ fourth away from home in their last five outings – puts them top of the table on 12 points from eight matches, with Long Eaton Invaders and Belle Vue joint second on 11 points, having ridden 10 and nine times respectively.
Next up for the Knights is another away fixture against the Scunthorpe Stags at the Owlerton Stadium in Sheffield on Thursday.
