A group of riders from Team MK travelled to Redbridge Cycle Centre (aka Hog Hill) for the first round of the National Youth Circuit Series on Sunday.
For most of the riders this was their first experience of racing at national level, having all competed strongly at regional level previously.
The weather was glorious compared to recent conditions and made for very quick racing in the large fields. The largest was the U16 boys race with some 102 riders, in which Buauna Ball represented Team MK.
Most of the club’s riders finished mid-field in their races, having shown true grit and determination against the competition and all seemed to enjoy their experience – learning lots and determined to compete again to improve their finishing positions at the next event.
Lauren Murphy put in a superb performance in the U14 girls’ race, maintaining her cool when suffering a puncture early on, to finish in a very creditable 8th place.
Molli Keenor, Lewis Muncaster, Sam Skeggs, Elliot Haigh and Elizabeth Shirley will all be joining Lauren and Buauna again, in addition to some of their other club-mates, to compete at the home round to be held at the National Bowl on the afternoon and evening of Saturday, June 8.
This will be a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in watching or competing in road racing to come along and see the best youth and junior racers in the UK. Some competitors will be travelling from as far afield as Scotland, Wales, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.
