Athletes complete Midlands Premier League campaign

It was the turn of the MMKAC under17/20 track and field team to complete their Midlands Premier League campaign.

They finished third on the day at Rugby and as last year third in the final league table, but were much closer to runners-up, Birchfield Harriers than in 2015. Rugby & Northampton completed the double as league champions.

For the under 20 men the lateral jumps were very successful. Jamil Hassan continued his excellent season’s form winning both the long jump(6.11m) and triple jump(13.51m) whilst James Mottram won the B long jump(5.07m) and was a very close second in the B triple jump(10.99m). Jonathan Pownall did his usual sterling job in the throws contesting all four events.

Moving to the under 17 men, in the sprints Maxwell Brown finished second in the 100m(11.40) and Kwame Twumasi-Tawiah third in the 200m(23.49). Ewan Forsyth(4.23.44) and Marcus Lovell(4.45.91) both finished second in their 1500m races. Ewan then teamed up with Alfie Yabsley to win both 1500m steeplechase races. Earlier Alfie set a PB of 1.59.09 winning the 800m. In the field Jack Porteous won the pole vault(3.00m) with Robert Lewis third in both the high jump(1.75m) and triple jump(10.09m).

Ebony Carr stormed to victory in both the under 20 ladies sprints, 100m in 12.48 and the 200m with 25.65. Maya Jennings took second in the B 200m(28.61) and third in the B 400m(64.83). Both Emma Mears(5.01.97) and Elizabeth Shirley claimed second places in the 1500 races. Paige Barnes set a season’s best wining the hammer throw with 41.45m.

For the under 17 ladies Molly Adams rana near PB for second in the 100m(13.01) with Iris-Mae Morse second in the B(13.66). Molly then set a high jump BP of 1.45 for another second position. Emma Mears then won this age group 800m(2.28.83) and colleague Charlotte Moyse took second in the B race(2.30.28). Enya Deysel made a good debut in the 1500m steeplechase, second in 5.33.18 and Holly Jamieson clocked 6.09.55 to win the B race. Star of the field events was Sade Ross winning the shot(12.60m) and second in the hammer(43.82m) whilst Joan Peedah won the B hammer(25.87m). Amber Evans has been contesting the 80m hurdles and lateral jumps through the season and took second place in the B triple jump(9.45m), fourth in the long jump(4.59m) and third over the hurdles(15.52).

At the other end of the age scale, four MMKAC athletes represented the Eastern Region in the annual veterans Inter-area Track & Field match at Solihull. Two of them set club records, Andre Sinclair-Linton, second in the high jump with a M50 record of 1.56m and then John Skelton setting a M65 record of 10.44.54 in the 3000. Andre then placed third in the long jump(5.10m) just 3cm off his club record for this discipline. Ivars Licietis took third in both the M60 200m(28.96) and 400m(64.02) and Corinne Nurse ran 2.24.65 for runner-up in the F35 800m. She later high jumped 1.35m for third place here.
