Huge numbers turn out to race in NSPCC half marathon

Dan Webber finished second(77.33) in the half marathon from the field over 450.

Ian Wood placed second in the 10km (35.33) in a race won by Stephen Strange (Basildon) in 34.53.

There were 552 finishers in total. There were three other MK runners in the top 25 of the half marathon: Mike Kerrigan 15th (88.45), Matt Child 20th (90.18) and Andrew Wasdell 23rd (90.40).

Victoria Kirschner-Heavens led home three ladies, 120th overall and 16th in this category (109.04) followed by Leah Hartwell, 27th lady (117.53) and Julie Jones 30th (116.51).

Jim Miller closed in 155th to record 114.12 and Peter Tye, 285th (132.50).

Councillor David Hosking crept under the two hour mark as he completed the NSPCC Milton Keynes Half Marathon on Sunday.

The Olney ward councillor, no stranger to running having competed in the Milton Keynes Marathon in previous years, completed the tough course 1:57.19, helping raise money for the NSPCC in the process.

He said afterwards: “I would like to thank the organisers, as well as all the marshalls, cadets and other volunteers who made the event such a success.

“Congratulations go to all the runners who completed the course and who successfully ‘negotiated’ that steep hill in Campbell Park!”

The NSPCC Milton Keynes Half Marathon is in it’s 16th year, and has raised more than £600,000 for the charity.
