Track and field training underway for athletes

A sizeable group of local athletes competed in the annual Herts Phoenix open meeting at Welwyn Garden City. This is very much a pre-cursor to the forthcoming track and field season.

Seven athletes ran a 200m/400m/800 treble. Sam Winters was the fastest with personal best times of 24.0/52.3 & 2.03.3. Harry Morton (M20) clocked PB’s of 24.4/55.9/2.03.3 as did M17’s Harvey Green (26.1/58.9/2.13.0) and Ewan Forsythe (27.7.61.2/2.13.7).

Jake Cox set PB’s in the 200m (27.1) and 400m (59.6) and ran 2.19.3 in the 800m. Nathan Nurse (M20) ran 25.0/59.4 & 2.13.2 whilst Natalie Nurse (F17) clocked 30.4/70.1 & 2.50.0.

Over 1500m, Elle Roche ran a fast early season 4.43.8 whilst there were PB’s from Charlie Madgin (M15/4.46.1) and Alex Brent (M13/5.20.6). PB’s came in the 3000m from M15’s Robert Hickman (10.11.1) and Jack Terrey (11.25.0).

In the field events the close duels in the F17 hammer throw between Lauren Presswell and Paige Barnes continued with Lauren throwing 46.52m and Paige 45.74m. Alexander Hamling (M17) threw the shot 11.75m and the discus (25.56m). Best long jump came from Molly Adams (F17/4.83m), Lucy Johnston (F20) sailed out to 10.73m in the triple jump.

In the sprints Lee Westley (M20) clocked 11.7 in the 100m and Annie Jankowiak(F17) ran 13,4, Annie set a PB in the 300m (42.6) as did Casey Hodges with 43.1.

Casey then set PB.s in the 60m hurdles (13.8) and 300m hurdles (29.1)

Gary Blaber set a personal best in the Maidenhead 10, 39th from a field of over 900 with 59.06.

At the Stanwick 10km, Jeremy Vick placed 6th with a time of 35.24 and Nadine Lewycky was second lady clocking 38.51, 30th overall.

Earlier Nadine was first women home in the Thorney 10km recording 37.26, just outside her personal best.

Dan Webber placed 7th in the Yeovil half-marathon with 76.46 whilst Jeremy Vick was 10th in the Oakley 20(2:07.23) and Tom Hayman 29th(2:13.35).
