Webber first home for MK in historic Berlin Marathon

In an historic race, Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge smashed the marathon world record by clocking a time of 2:01.57 on the streets of Berlin, taking nearly 80 seconds off the previous record set back in 2014.

Wendy, a very experienced marathon runner, ran, as she often does, very even splits through the race.

Wendy ran 5km splits ranging between 21min 11 sec to 21min 27 sec to finish 108th female (19th F40) with a final time of 2:59.31.

She ran the first half in 1:29.45 and only one second slower for the second half.

The first woman across the line was Gladys Cherono, also of Kenya, finishing in 2:18.11, Stephen Young ran 3:00.48, Elliot Hind 3:13.11 and Tom Hayman 3:14.13.

Four MMKAC athletes competed in the annual World Masters Championships held this year in Malaga, Spain.

John Brown fought his way through to the final of the M65 100m. He ran 13.28 in his heat, then placed 3rd in his semi-final (12.98). He finished sixth in the final with a time of 13.48.

John Skelton made the final of the M65 1,500m by winning his heat in 5.17.41 and finished 5th in the final clocking 4.59.88.

Steve Herring made his debut at these Championships and placed sixth in his heat of the M50 800m, but his time of 2.14.49 was not quite quick enough to qualify for the semi-finals.

In the road events, Ian Van Lokven placed 9th in the M60 half-marathon with a time of 87.08 but more important for him was being a member of the Great Britain trio than won team gold.
