Youngsters extend their lead

Another brilliant win for Marshall Milton Keynes Athletic Club’s Youth Development League Under 20s team saw them pull well clear of Charnwood for the title race.

On a hot but blustery day the team spearheaded by the under 20 women completely out-shone the their opposition taking full advantage of the home track.

In Sandy, at the Eastern Veterans Championships, there were medals galore with a silver in the 800m for Stephen Herring 2m 12s followed up by gold in the 1500m 4m 36.6s.

There was silver also in the 800m for Malcolm Down (2m 19.8s) with gold in the 100m for John Browne who ran 12.2s. He who made it double winning the 200m in 26.6s with bronze for John Turner 28.4s who took silver in the shot 8.96m and gold in the discus 31.14m.

There were silvers in the 800m for Mike Burling 2m 44.7s and in the hammer 29.26m with bronze for Jim Lawrence 21.82m.

It was a good day for Bunt Scott who won gold in the hammer 36.63m silver in the discus (35.03m) and javelin (24.4m).

However the ‘star of the day’ was Alana Slater with three golds in the 100m 13.4s a new F35 Club Record the 200m 28.2s and 400m 66.2s

The penultimate round of the East Midlands Grand Prix race series was the testing Weedon 10k which starts with much of the first half uphill but with a fast downhill run almost to the finish line.

Leading the Club’s runners home in 11th was Matthew Clarke 35m 48s, followed by 29th Jeremy Vick 37m 40s, 41st Malcolm Down (3rd M50), 51st Andrew Wasdell, 70th Neil Jones, 89th Ian Pheasey.
