Bletchley golfer takes over as skipper

A Bletchley man has been installed as the new Captain of the Senior Section at Leighton Buzzard golf club.

Neath-born father of four Robbie John has been playing golf for decades and was a member of the Stanbridge golf society when he was stationed at the Leighton-based communications centre during his 14 years as a ground engineer with the Royal Air Force. Robbie went on to work for the Milton Keynes local authority community service team before retiring over a year ago.

Robbie, who has five grandchildren, lived in Wing before moving to Bletchley with wife Diana

His season as Captain of Leighton’s Dad’s Army golfers got off to a damp start, with the Spencer Cup competition last week having to be postponed due to heavy rain which caused significant flooding in the area. That competition will now be played next month….with Robbie’s playing season getting underway today (Tues) with the annual fixture against the Leighton Ladies for the Spencer Cup, followed by an opening inter-club match on Thursday against Dunstable Downs at the Plantation Road course.
