Bonus point evades Bletchley in Swindon win

Sat comfortably in seventh in Southern Counties North, Bletchley actually fell behind in the game after Swindon kicked an early penalty. It would be their only score of the afternoon though.

After 10 minutes or so following a blatant late tackle by SCOB’s second row (the first of a few this afternoon), Bletchley got into the opposition 22 and promptly scored the first try of the match - quick hands from Kevin Turnbull releasing Dean Williams in the corner.

Bletchley controlled the rest of the half adding another try from Dean Williams after good hands from Coleman and Harman. SCOB had started to run the ball from deep trying to get the ball to their quick wingers but the handling wasn’t as effective as it had been in the match earlier in the season. They were clearly missing their experienced outside centre.

At half time the Bletchley team talk concentrated on increasing our pace and taking the game away from SCOB. As it transpired, Bletchley dominated field position and possession but SCOB defended aggressively and desperately throughout. They succeeded in limiting Bletchley to a penalty kick and one further (converted) try from Glen White after a messy SCOB scrum. A SCOB player was sent off following a scuffle towards the end of the match and Bletchley will be kicking themselves for not getting the bonus point with the opposition down to 14.

The 130 mile round trip was worth it thanks to the win and Bletchley return to home comforts next week against the league leaders Aylesbury who have some impressive results behind them this season. Kick off at Manor Fields is at 2.15pm on Saturday.
