Charlie Stewart made a great start to the season with a win first time out, taking the LTSI South East Open Taekwondo Championship.
The LTSI has become the must attend competition of the year and is well attended by many different Taekwondo organisations. It was a competition that was to reward all of her recent training and hard work. Starting with Patterns (linked martial arts moves), Charlie performed well beating off the competition to win gold.
Following this victory Charlie competed in the sparring category (fighting). Whilst still new to competition, Charlie commented on how this was the first competition where she was able to plan her moves to gain an advantage over her opponents.
In the early stages of competition, fighting is often more reactive than tactical. This clearly paid off with Charlie dominating the fighting square and forcing her opponents to fight defensively from the corners. This change resulted in her taking the gold medal.
Charlie is now looking forward to the GTI championships in July.
