Great Brickhill held on to save a draw at home to Buckingham on Saturday in Cherwell League Division 1, after a dominant century from Bucks’ Ash Pearson.
On a good batting surface, Buckingham faced first, taking 53 overs.
Pearson’s unbeaten 119 was the highlight of the show, as he fired the visitors to 288-6.
George Humphries took 3-72 for Brickhill.
In response, and with six fewer overs, Brickhill’s charge was always going to be a tough one.
Several batsmen got starts, namely Doug Aris with 48, Patrick Prasad with 44 and Barry Webb not out on 40, but it needed someone to take it on and dominate the Buckingham bowling, which just didn’t happen.
Brickhill completed their innings on 220-7, forced to settle for a losing draw, leaving them second from bottom of Cherwell Division 1 after two games.
Wolverton’s game with Oxford Downs was cancelled.
In Division 3, Bletchley were bowled out for 110 against Sandford St Martin (111-4) by six wickets and sink to the bottom of the table, albeit with two games played.
Great Brickhill 2nds were away to Blewbury & Wallingford and lost by 47 runs in Division 4.
Lee Morgan took 6-32 to help restrict the opposition to 171 all out but regular wickets well in Brickhill’s reply leading to 124 all out. Greg MacDonald hit 53.
In Division 6, Wolverton 2nds disappointed with the bat. Bowled out for 95, Aston Rowant 3rds (96-1) cruised to a nine wicket win,
Steve Talbot’s 39 was the one shining light for Bletchley 2nds’ as they went down by five wickets against Sandford St Martin 2nds.
Scoring 104-9, Sandford (105-5) needed just 24 overs to take victory.
