Stony climb after Oundle loss

Stony Stratford must be wondering what they’ve got to do to get back to winning ways after a promising batting display ended with yet another defeat, this time to Oundle Town.

Stony were put into bat after losing the opening toss, but it looked like good fortune initially as they made a decent start.

Opener Praveen Chandran’s 69 at the top kept things ticking over, with decent knocks down the order.

Prasanna Chandran added another 50 to the books as Stony looked in decent shape, ending their knock on 231.

But Oundle were in no mood to mess around, and got off to a flying start.

Openers Ben Groom (37) and Peter Forster (42) got the home side off to a good start, putting on 57 for the first wicket.

Kamran Anwar was the danger man for Stony as he took two wickets, but with Alex Martin (100 not out) and Zeeshan Manzoor (41 not out), Stony quickly came unstuck and were unable to keep a lid on the home side’s free flowing batting.

Oundle ended the game on 234-3 to win by seven wickets.

Stony have still won just once this season, but the result sees them climb to 10th in the Northant Cricket Leauge Premier Division table, pushing Brixworth down into 11th place.
