New City looked in total control against Cranfield on Saturday as they cruised to a 110 run victory over Cranfield University in Four Counties Division One.
Despite losing Dharmesh Mistry LBW for 9, and Dhruv Pankhania shortly after for 4, opener Amit Mulay was the anchor in the innings.
He was joined by Ashish Ratia and they had a good 50 run partnership - Ratia proving to be an excellent foil for Mulay.
Ratia was caught for 25 whilst Mulay carried on for his 50.
The in-form Vishal Valumbhia came to the crease and looked unperturbed with some massive sixes in conjunction with some sensible batting. Vishal ended up with another well made 40, but Mulay was run out agonisingly close to his century when his bat got stuck in the ground as he raced to get home. He went for 98.
Kaival Patel (12) and Harsh Desai (16 not out) came in to get some quick runs before New City declared on 256-6 allowing four extra overs with the ball.
In response, skipper Kaival Patel took 3-27 as the Cranfield top order crumbled while fellow opening bowler Krishna Pandey took 2-31 to have the top order in pieces.
Cranfield’s number six Neelabha Chatterjee proved to be a tough opponent though, firing a majestic 80 not out, though his team-mates were failing to back him up.
Vishal Amratlal Valambhia took a sensational 4-4 from three overs to wrap up the innings for Cranfield, securing a 110 run victory.
