Izzy Ferrada had to borrow a bike for the British BMX Championships last weekend and it certainly brought her luck as she took the title.
The 17-year-old from Great Linford was a ‘wild card’ entry in the 17-29 Female Championship for 24in BMX bikes, but that didn’t hold her back when the racing began.
Despite being the youngest rider and racing one of these bikes for the first time, Izzy won and became British champion.
“I can’t believe I’ve won,” Izzy said immediately after crossing the line.
“I’ve just beaten last year’s British and World Champion as well as thetop national riders. I just wasn’t expecting this!”
The Championships held at Perry Park, Birmingham, over the Bank Holiday weekend attracted over 1,000 entries from all over the country and included the newly crowned BMX World Champion Liam Phillips.
Milton Keynes BMX Racing Club were well represented, although Izzy was the only one to come away with a National title.
