Race against the clock on New Year’s Day

New Year’s Resolutions don’t come earlier than those at North Bucks Road Club keen cyclists will compete in a time trial on January 1.

If you’re lucky enough to get a new bike for Christmas, NRBC are looking to get new members to join them at their annual time trial on New Year’s Day.

For the uninitiated time trialling is the simplest of competitive formats in cycling: a race against the clock, with riders starting a minute apart. It’s known by some as the ‘race of truth’ because there’s nowhere to hide, no one to draft behind: just you and the bike.

The timekeeper’s assistant will hold you while you clip your feet to the pedals. After a brief countdown, riders set off.

To take part, all you’ll need will be a sound roadworthy bike and a helmet, you don’t need a specialist bike, though you may see several.

The event takes place over 10 miles and is limited to a maximum of 40 riders, on a first come first serve basis so interested parties are advised to arrive in good time to pay the entry fee.

Under 18s are welcome, but will need a parental disclaimer in order to take part.

If you’re interested in taking part in this, or any of or other time trial events head on over to www.northbucksroadclub.org.uk/ or contact them on Facebook or Twitter.
