Karen Wilson and Paula Heywood took home gold from the World Masters Regatta with a dominant performance in the water at Hazelwinkel in Belgium.
The pair from MK Rowing Club dominated the field of competitors in the Women’s Masters E coxless pair category as they ploughed through the opposition from Hungary, USA, Australia and the UK.
After a strong start to the 1000 metre race, the pair kept a steady pace in the lead all the way, finishing with a final push to place them an impressive 10 seconds ahead of the Hungary crew who came in second.
Wilson and Heywood have been rowing together for around 8 years and are already British National Masters gold medallists in a coxed four earlier this year and only started seriously training in the pair earlier on this year.
Louise Rivett, Club Chair man said: “We are so proud of Karen and Paula’s achievements this weekend.
“To see them perform at this high level and to win convincingly was an absolutely amazing experience for all of us who went.
“We are now keen to share our successes with local businesses in MK so that we can continue to grow as a club and offer more people the opportunity to take part in this great sport.”
