Midfield wizard set to complete move from Plymouth
MK Dons will go into this weekend's League One season opener boosted by the return of midfield maestro Jason Puncheon.
The 23-year-old was back at stadium:mk yesterday morning (Monday) to complete his switch from Plymouth Argyle having enjoyed a memorable loan spell at Dons last season.
And boss Paul Ince said that Puncheon is likely to be the first of at least three additions to his side before the transfer window closes at the end of August, with Darren Powell also expected to get a deal in the coming days.
"We're obviously playing catch-up but we are looking to sign another two or three yet," said Ince. "But Jason Puncheon will be signing and another defender may also join us before the season starts.
"It's hard when you come late into the fold and a lot of good players have been snapped up. But Powell has done well for us and we're hoping to do something with him.
"After the disappointment of Ugo Ehiogu hanging up his boots that has set us back a bit. But Powell has been very positive and I'm hoping we'll sit down and do something with him. He's a natural defender and just gets the job done, plus we need cover at the back."
Puncheon played an integral role as Dons reached the League One play-offs last season and was also the Citizen's player of the year.
And Ince said that having heard excellent things about his time with Dons last term, he was keen to bring him back.
"Behind the scenes me and the chairman have been working hard to try and bring him back. There were a number of other clubs in for him, but he wanted to come back here."
Dons welcome Hartlepool to stadium:mk on Saturday and brought their pre season to a close with a comfortable 3-1 victory against Northampton Town.
Jemal Johnson was the star of the show as he bagged a sublime hat-trick, banging in all three goals from outside the penalty area.
