Double podium finish sees Nash level at the top

James Nash is leading the TCR Series championship after two podium finishes in Germany at the weekend.

Despite driving the heaviest car in the field thanks to success ballast from the previous event added to the already high regulatory base weight of his SEAT Leon, Nash scored a podium in both of Sunday’s TCR races at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben in Germany.

Third in the opening race was followed by another third place podium less than 45 minutes later in race two with both races being run on a damp track, wet from rain shortly before race one.

It made it six podiums already this season for Nash, who now finds himself in effect joint top of the championship standings with his Craft Bamboo SEAT Lukoil teammate Pepe Oriola who won race two, albeit with the Spaniard leading on tie-back thanks to his three wins compared to Nash’s one.

“It was a positive weekend, with two good races,” said Nash. “It’s nice to be on equal points in the standings with Pepe, although he has more wins than I do. That’s what I need to do, try to win more often, but today, given the conditions, I really went for the points, trying to avoid overdoing things and making mistakes.”
