Battling throughout the season with rival Adam Mackay, Savage went into the final round at Snetterton just two points adrift in the overall standings.

But short pit-stop - just 0.4 second short of the three minute minimum - saw Savage hit with a drive-through penalty, dropping him down the order.

Savage rallied by finished fourth with Mackay in second, taking the title by seven points.

“Next year I have plans to race Lotus Cup again and take the title,” Savage said.

“I was hoping to take the championship this year and beat my dad’s effort of second in Cup last year but it wasn’t to be. Hopefully next year.”
